The first fruits offering of a harvest during the feasts mandated by the Mosaic Law was a promise or indication that the full harvest was to follow. Likewise, the baptism with the Holy Spirit, given to humanity as the first fruits of the Spirit, is a promise that something more is to follow later.
Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God, who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge [down payment]. 2Corinthians 1:21-22 NASB
Now He who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave to us the Spirit as a pledge [down payment]. 2Corinthians 5:5 NASB
Thus the baptism with the Holy Spirit is a pledge of or the down payment for the full manifestation of the Holy Spirit.
In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation–having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory. Ephesians 1:13-14 NASB
The baptism with the Holy Spirit is a pledge toward another anointing from God Almighty, which is the adoption as a mature son into the garden realm and the presence of God Almighty.
And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body. Romans 8:23 NASB
Therefore, there will be a company of saints who have received the baptism with the Holy Spirit, who have persevered through trials and tribulations, who will be adopted as sons of God Almighty, and who will minister at the 100-fold designation of production of spiritual fruit.
“And it will come about in all the land,” / declares the LORD, / “That two parts in it will be cut off and perish; / But the third will be left in it. / And I will bring the third part through the fire, / Refine them as silver is refined, / And test them as gold is tested. / They will call on My name, / And I will answer them; / I will say, ‘They are My people,’ / And they will say, ‘The LORD is my God.’ ” Zechariah 13:8-9 NASB
The third part that is tested and refined by the fiery furnace of affliction speaks of those who will attain God Almighty’s third anointing/gift while on earth, the adoption as sons.
When saints have been refined in the fiery furnace of affliction, when they have matured with the aid of the Father’s discipline and training, they will be ready for the third good thing from God Almighty.
Now I say, as long as the heir is a child, he does not differ at all from a slave although he is owner of everything, but he is under guardians and mangers until the date set by the father. So also we, while we were children, were held in bondage under the elemental things of the world. Galatians 4:1-3 NASB
At the date set by our heavenly Father, a company of saints will be adopted as sons.
But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, in order that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. Galatians 4:4-5 NASB
He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, which he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. Ephesians 1:5-6 NASB
The adoption as a son of God Almighty is sometimes called sonship, and the grant of sonship is associated with the 100-fold level of production of spiritual fruit.
Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, there is not one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the gospel’s sake, but that he shall receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the world [aion, thus age] to come, eternal life.” Mark 10:29-30 NASB
The adopted sons of God Almighty will be entrusted with power from heaven.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go to the Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” John 14:12 NASB
To this point in time, there have been only two sons of God Almighty, the man Adam and Jesus, and both of these sons faced temptation from Satan. The man Adam was formed of dust from the ground and placed in the garden of Eden (Gen 2:7-8) as a son of God. The man Adam at the 100-fold level of spiritual fruit had dominion over all the animals, including Satan as a beast of the field, and we have thoroughly documented the man Adam’s failure to overcome Satan’s temptation.
Jesus was born of woman, was tutored as a youth, and adopted as a Son of God Almighty at the River Jordan. Before Jesus was granted God Almighty’s authority, He was tempted by Satan.
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. Matthew 4:1 NASB
Jesus was tempted in body.
And the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” Matthew 4:3 NASB
Jesus was tempted in the Spirit.
Then the devil took Him into the holy city; and he stood Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God throw Yourself down; for it is written, … ” Matthew 4:5-6 NASB
Jesus was tempted in the soul.
Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory; and he said to Him, “All these things will I give You, if You fall down and worship me.” Matthew 4:8-9 NASB
Jesus overcame these temptations of Satan and thus overcome the world.
“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 NASB
Like the man Adam and Jesus, adopted sons, having endured the trials, testings, and tribulations of the fiery furnace of affliction from God Almighty, will face and must overcome temptation by Satan before they can be entrusted with the power of the heavenly kingdom.
Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world. 1Peter 5:8-9 NASB
Those sons who, through faith in Jesus Christ and trust in God Almighty, overcome Satan’s temptation will be entrusted with the authority of the Father to reign with the Lord of lords, Jesus Christ.
For this reason I endure all things for the sake of those who are chosen, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus and with it eternal glory. It is a trustworthy statment: For if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him; If we endure, we shall also reign with Him; … 2Timothy 2:10-12 NASB
Adopted sons will have to overcome an encounter with Satan and prove themselves trustworthy before they receive God Almighty’s authority to reign with Jesus. As indicated by the two sons of God Almighty, some will overcome Satan’s temptation, and some will not.
But notice in 2Timothy 2:12 the reference to a death, if we died with Him. This death with Jesus is not the physical death that is the destiny of all humanity, but rather the death of self-will of the soul. Jesus, during His time of temptation in the wilderness, relinquished His will and accepted the will of His Father in heaven and thereby overcame the world.
“I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.” John 5:30 NASB
One overcomes the world by dying to self-will of the soul and accepting God Almighty’s will as one’s own. Successfully overcoming self-will, the ultimate goal of the Christian experience, allows one to abide in the presence of God Almighty.
And He summoned the multitude with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” Mark 8:34 NASB
The 100-fold level of production of spiritual fruit suggests 100% submission of the human will to the will of God Almighty and 100% filling by the Holy Spirit. Jesus had authority over the physical elements, over the spiritual elements, and over humanity. Similarly, the sons of God Almighty who overcome Satan’s temptation will have dominion over physical and spiritual elements. In the prophetic words of the visions in Revelation, we find attributes of the overcoming sons.
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of God.” Revelation 2:7 NASB
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death.” Revelation 2:11 NASB
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, to him I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and a new name written on the stone which no one knows but he who receives it.” Revelation 2:17 NASB
“And he who overcomes, and he who keeps My deeds until the end, TO HIM I WILL GIVE AUTHOIRTY OVER THE NAITONS;” Revelation 2:26 NASB
“He who overcomes shall thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father, and before His angels.” Revelation 3:5 NASB
“He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will not go out from it any more; and I will write upon him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My new name.” Revelation 3:12 NASB
“He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.” Revelation 3:21 NASB
“He who overcomes shall inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son.” Revelation 21:7 NASB
An overcoming son of God Almighty will be clothed in white garments (righteousness), will forever have his name in the book of life, will have a new name confessed before God Almighty, and will sit down on the heavenly throne. These overcoming sons will be pillars in the temple of God, the 100-fold level of production of spiritual fruit (Section 5-23). Oh, to be an overcoming son of God!
