A Visit With Scripture
– God’s Plan for Humanity –

7.3 Spiritual Day/Age 7

The blowing of trumpets, which heralds the holy convocation of both living and resurrected saints at the end of spiritual day/age 6, also announces a great victory.  In the pattern of the Israelites, blowing trumpets at the edge of the Promised Land signaled a great victory.

And the LORD said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and the valiant warriors.  And you shall march around the city, all the men of war circling the city once.  You shall do so for six days.  Also seven priests shall carry seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark; then on the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets.  …  So the people shouted and priests blew the trumpets; and it came about, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, that the people shouted with a great shout and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight ahead, and they took the city Joshua 6:2-4,20  NASB

Similarly, for the body of Christ and the whole world, the blowing of the heavenly trumpets of Tabernacles/Booths when Jesus shall appear in the clouds announces a great victory for humanity over the kingdom of darkness.  Consequently, Jesus’ second coming is also portrayed in terms of warfare that will result in the conquest of the kingdom of darkness.

And I saw heaven opened; and behold, a white horse, and He who sat upon it is called Faithful and True; and in righteousness He judges and wages war.  …  And He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood; and His name is called The Word of God.  And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses.  …  And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”  …  And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies, assembled to make war against Him who sat upon the horse, and against His army.  And the beast was seized, and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone.  And the rest were killed with the sword which came from the mouth of Him who sat upon the horse, and all the birds were filled with their flesh.  Revelation 19:11,13-14,16,19-21  NASB

Jesus, seated on a white horse, and His army of saints will defeat both the beast and the false prophet, who had tormented the saints during spiritual day/age 6.  The Word of God, i.e., the sword which came from the mouth of Him, is the means to bring an end to the reign of Satan’s agents.  In addition, Satan, the ruler of the world since the beginning of human history, will be bound for the millennium during spiritual day/age 7.

And I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key of the abyss and a great chain in his handAnd he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, and threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he should not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time.   Revelation 20:1-3  NASB

What a great victory Jesus and His armies of saints will provide for humanity.

In the pattern of the days of creation in Genesis 1-2, day seven was a sabbath of rest from creative activity for God Almighty.

“For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath and made it holy.”  Exodus  20:11  NASB

Likewise, because of the great victory by Jesus and his armies, spiritual day/age 7 will be a sabbath or day of rest for God Almighty from His rule and reign.  We see a suggestion of this period of rest in the pattern of the Israelites after the victory at Jericho.

When you cross the Jordan and live in the land which the LORD your God is giving you to inherit, and He gives you rest from all your enemies around you so that you live in security,”  Deuteronomy 12:10  NASB

The beast and false prophet will be thrown into the lake of fire and Satan will be bound for a thousand years, thus the spiritual leadership of evil forces in heavenly places will be removed from the earth.

“Now judgment is upon this world; now the ruler of this world shall be cast out.”  John 12:31  NASB

The earth will enter a time of spiritual peace and rest and the priests of God and His Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years (Rev 20:6).  The many-membered Christ who will reign during the millennium will be bifurcated with a heavenly component and an earthly component.  The heavenly component of the reigning Christ will include the Lord Jesus and resurrected saints.  After meeting the Lord in the air (1Thess 4:17), the earthly component, the spiritual man created during spiritual day/age 6, will remain on earth and reign with Jesus.  Jacob, while fleeing from Esau, had a vision of the connection between these two components of the ruling Christ.

And he had a dream, and behold, a ladder was set on the earth with its top reaching to heaven; and behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.  Genesis 28:12  NASB

The many-membered Christ reigning during the millennium will be anointed with a mighty ministry.

The seventh angel sounded his trumpet; and there were loud voices in heaven, which said, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord, and of His Messiah; and he will reign for ever and ever.”  And the twenty-four elders, who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God, saying, “We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was, because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign.  The nations were angry, and your wrath has come.  The time has come for judging the dead, and for rewarding your servants the prophets and your people who revere your name, both great and small—and for destroying those who destroy the earth.”  Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant.  And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake and a severe hailstorm.  Revelation 11:14-19  NIV

This reigning Christ will be a blessing on earth as they produce the spiritual fruit of Tabernacles.

For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God.  For the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God.  For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now.  Romans 8:19-22  NASB

Here then we have an indication that humanity will fulfill the prophecy in God Almighty’s curses in the garden that humanity will return to garden/dust realm.

After settling in the Promised Land, judges ruled the Israelites.

Then the LORD raised up judges who delivered them [the Israelites] from the hands of those who plundered them Judges 2:16  NASB

Here then we have the indication that some of the many-membered Christ will judge the world.

Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world?  And if the world is judged by you, are you not competent to constitute the smallest law court?  Do you not know that we shall judge angels?  How much more, matters of this life?  1Corinthians 6:2-3  NASB

And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given to them.  …  Revelation 20:4  NASB

There is ambiguity about the identity of those who will sit upon thrones with judgment, because there is no antecedent in close proximity for the “they” in Revelation 20:4.  A common interpretation is that “they” is defined by the statements which follow, i.e., those who had been beheaded and who had not worshiped the beast or his image.  In addition, those who will sit upon thrones are mentioned elsewhere.  We are told that the disciples of Jesus will be among those sitting upon thrones.

And Jesus said to them, “Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”  Matthew 19:28  NASB

There are twenty-four elders sitting on thrones.

And around the throne were twenty-four thrones; and upon the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white garments, and golden crowns on their heads Revelation 4:4  NASB

Those sitting upon thrones will include overcomers, such as those in the Two Witnesses company at the end of spiritual day/age 5.

He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.”  Revelation 3:21  NASB

After a time, the governance of the Israelites transitioned from judges to kings.  First there were the warring kings, Saul and David, then there followed King Solomon and his glory.

So King Solomon became greater than all the kings of the earth in riches and in wisdom 1Kings 10:23  NASB

Solomon is a type for the rule and reign of Jesus with His body.

which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and seated Him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in the one to come.  And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.  Ephesians 1:20-23  NASB

All things will be in subjection under His feet, that part of the body in contact with the earth, so His feet are those in the body of Christ who are alive and reigning upon the earth.

Following the glorious reign of Solomon, the Israelites were conquered, with some exiled to Babylon in 586 BC.

“But because our fathers had provoked the God of heaven to wrath, He gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this temple and deported the people to Babylon.”  Ezra 5:12  NASB

Here then we have an indication that, after a thousand years of rule and reign by the body of Christ, Satan will be released and will once again wage war with the saints.

And when the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison, and will come out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together for the war; the number of them is like the sand of the seashore.   Revelation 20:7-8  NASB

The story of the Israelites/Jews since their exodus from slavery in Egypt has been a pattern for the spiritual development of humanity during spiritual day/ages 5, 6, and 7.  But now, we have come to the final chapter of Israelites/Jews, the Jewish nation in first century AD, which is the time of Jesus’ first appearance and also the end of the nation of Israelites/Jews.  So, Jesus’ first appearance 2,000 years ago as the culminating event of the nation of Israelites/Jews and of spiritual day/age 4 is a pattern for the culminating events of spiritual day/age 7.

Jesus, at His temptation, met Satan and defeated him.

the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginningThe Son of God appeared for this purpose, that He might destroy the works of the devil 1John 3:8  NASB

Here then we have the indication that, after Satan has been released from the abyss, Jesus will defeat Satan and his warriors.

And they came up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, and fire came down from heaven and devoured themAnd the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.    Revelation 20:9-10,  NASB

In a literal sense, we have a repeat of the fire from heaven associated with Sodom (Gen 19) and Elijah (2Kings 1:10).  In a figurative sense, we have the suggestion of the Holy Spirit, the fire from heaven on the day of Pentecost.  Either way, the fire from heaven will mean victory for the saints, and Satan will join the rest of the kingdom of darkness in eternal torment.

After the spiritual enemies of humanity have been thrown into the lake of fire/hell, all that remains in the spiritual progression of humanity is the final victory over death.

For He [Jesus] must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feetThe last enemy that will be abolished is death.  1Corinthians 15:25-26  NASB

The fourth and last resurrection of humanity and the blessings of grace and mercy will provide this final victory.
