A Visit With Scripture
– God’s Plan for Humanity –

4.0 Preface

Spiritual day/age 3 ended with the two kingdoms of Israelites conquered and Judeans carried away into captivity in Babylon.  By decree of King Cyrus of Assyria at the beginning of spiritual day/age 4, a remnant of exiles (called Jews) returned to the Promised Land in 538 BC.  The exiles resettled Jerusalem and rebuilt the temple, though there was no ark to put in the Holy of Holies.  The biblical narrative of the Old Testament ends at this point, so later events of spiritual day/age 4 are told in the New Testament.  Greek culture spread to Palestine after the conquest by Alexander the Great in 332 BC.  Though conquered by the Romans in 63 BC, Palestine retained Greek influences.  Spiritual day/age 4, which coincides with the second temple period, ended with the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 AD.
