A Visit With Scripture
– God’s Plan for Humanity –

3.0 Preface

In spiritual day/age 2, the man Adam was created and placed in the spiritual realm of the garden of God Almighty.  When Satan tempted the first couple, the man Adam failed to keep or protect the garden realm from the intrusion of sin.  Because they disobeyed, the first couple were banished from the garden realm to the ground and relegated to the kingdom of darkness.  God Almighty foretold in His curses that the first phase of humanity–spiritual children of Satan descendant from the first couple–would be spiritual thorns and thistles, which are to be destroyed (Heb 6:7-8).  That is what God Almighty did to humanity with the flood, the culminating event of spiritual day/age 2.

And all flesh that moved on the earth perished, birds and cattle and beasts and every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind; of all that was on the dry land, all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died Genesis 7:21-22  NASB

Our consideration of spiritual day/age 3 starts with the pattern of day 3 from Genesis 1.

Then God said, “Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so.  And God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of the waters He called seas; and God saw that it was good.  Then God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit after their kind, with seed in them, on the earth”; and it was so.  And the earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit, with seed in them, after their kind; and God saw that it was good.  And there was evening and there was morning, a third day.  Genesis 1:9-13  NASB

Fulfillment of this prophecy for the third day/age of spiritual creation began when flood waters receded from upon the earth.

But God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the cattle that were with him in the ark; and God caused a wind to pass over the earth, and the water subsided.  Also the fountains of the deep [waters below, Gen 1:7] and the floodgates of the sky [waters above, Gen 1:7] were closed, and the rain from the sky was restrained; and the water receded steadily from the earth, and at the end of one hundred and fifty days the water decreased.  Genesis 8:1-3

Land reappeared (Gen 1:9), and the earth sprouted vegetation, plants yielding seed  …, and trees bearing fruit (Gen 1:11).  According to Genesis 1, this vegetation existed in an environment that did not have a sun, because the sun, moon, and stars do not appear until the fourth day of creation.  While vegetation growing without a sun is contradictory to our understanding of how things work in the physical world, there is valid meaning when we interpret the days of creation as telling of the evolution of the earth into a suitable place for the kingdom of God Almighty.  The sun, moon, and stars symbolically represent God Almighty, Jesus, and the saints, respectively, and vegetation existing without a sun is interpreted as humanity existing without spiritual light.

God Almighty ‘harvested’ Noah and his family from the thorns and thistles phase of humanity in spiritual day/age 2 as “seed” for repopulating the earth in spiritual day/age 3 as the plants of the field phase of humanity (Gen 3:18-19).   God Almighty separated the Israelites, descendants of Abraham through Jacob/Israel, from the rest of humanity during this day/age, and the Israelites are the trees bearing fruit.  Unfortunately thorns and thistles are with us always, so a portion of the repopulation reverted to wickedness (e.g., Sodom and Gomorrah).

Those in this phase of humanity are still spiritual children of Satan, and they cannot by themselves evolve into children of God Almighty.  In other words, humanity cannot redeem itself; this must be done by an outside agency.  Until the incarnation of the tree of life, all of humanity will remain spiritual children of Satan.  Consequently, Old Testament saints were servants of God Almighty rather than children.

“Remember Thy servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; do not look at the stubbornness of this people or at their wickedness or their sin.”  Deuteronomy 9:27  NASB

Now Moses was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of these things which were to be spoken later;  Hebrews 3:5  NASB

Through God Almighty’s servants, humanity was given the Law, God Almighty’s standard for human behavior.

Spiritual day/age 3 begins with Noah claiming the cleansed earth after the flood (Genesis 8) and continues through the patriarchs, slavery in Egypt, the exodus, and the Israelites’ conquest and occupation of the Promised Land.  Spiritual day/age 3 ends with the destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians in 586 BC, the end of the first temple period.  The Old Testament narrative ends shortly thereafter.
